Children Can Meet Artists, Learn About Other Cultures, and Enjoy Spectacular Folk Art – All For Free

Santa Fe, New Mexico — Kids can receive a personal “Passport” and virtually travel the world this summer, thanks to a special program at the 2014 International Folk Art Market.
Children attending the Market on Sunday, July 13 can follow yellow footsteps marked on the ground to a special booth where they will receive their own Market “Passport.” Carrying this passport from booth to booth, they can talk with artists from around the globe, and receive special Passport “stamps” that show the flag of the artist’s nation.
In addition, the children can see maps pinpointing where the artists live. At the end of their journey they receive a sticker that states they have “Traveled the World at the International Folk Art Market.”
The program strives to awaken in children awareness about the many countries and cultures that exist in the world. All of the Passport Project activities are free. Admission is also free for children under the age of 16. Sunday, July 13th, is Family Day at the International Folk Art Market, and adult admission is only $10 in advance and $15 at the gate.
Last year, more than 700 children participated in the “Passport Project.” Organizers expect that number to rise significantly this year. The Passport Project “gives the children entrée,” says Judith Espinar, Market co-founder. “We know kids are curious and they want a way to approach and talk with the artists. The Passport Project gives them that. The artists love it, too.”
