As part of the 2017 International Folk Market | Santa Fe, the International Folk Art Alliance is proud to present, Creating Global Impact: Social Innovation and Cross-Sector Solutions, and host global thought-leaders and respected international figures who embrace IFAA’s mission and vision. This free event brings together four of the most respected leaders in the world of trend forecasting and Social Innovation. Social innovation is a field dedicated to solving social problems by attacking root causes through novel approaches, shifting away from a conventional charity approach of managing conditions.

Lidewij Edelkoort
Lidewij Edelkoort is a world-renowned trend forecaster and recognized by TIME magazine as one of the 25 Most Influential People in Fashion. Ms. Edelkoort is the Honorary Chair for 2017 International Folk Art Market | Santa Fe. She brings decades of commitment to culture-driven creativity, and will speak about the vital role that artisanal wisdom and folk roots play in the global creative economy.
Kim Meredith
Kim Meredith is the publisher of the Stanford Social Innovation Review and the founding director of the Stanford Center for Philanthropy & Civil Society (PACS), where she has been responsible for strategic leadership, strong financial performance and consistent organizational growth, including scaling the Stanford PACS budget twelve times in five years through expansion of research and programmatic initiatives. Ms. Meredith joined PACS July 2009, a year later led the team to acquire the Stanford Social Innovation Review (SSIR). In 2012 opened Stanford PACS programs at the Stanford Center at Peking University. Ms. Meredith brings dynamic and innovative leadership to implement the mission of Stanford PACS and SSIR. She will be speaking to the current trends in U.S. social-innovation and social-entrepreneurship, and about how those trends are showing up in areas of law, finance, and business.

Nat Sloane
Nat Sloane is a venture capitalist and the England Chair of the Big Lottery Fund who was recently honored with a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List (2015) for service to venture philanthropy and social investment. He was the co-founder of Impetus Trust, the first venture philanthropy trust fund in the UK, and is a trustee for Impetus-PEF, which was created from the recent merger of Impetus Trust with the Private Equity Fund. He will talk about the advances in social entrepreneurship that he foresees within the U.S. and more specifically New Mexico.

Diana Wells
Dr. Diana Wells is the president of Ashoka: Innovators for the Public, the largest global network of social entrepreneurs. Dr. Wells joined Ashoka after graduating from Brown University in 1988 with a degree in South Asian Studies. As an undergraduate, her year-long study abroad in Varanasi, India led her to see the need for local solutions to global problems. This insight inspired her to pursue an internship at Ashoka, where she created one of its core programs, Fellowship Support Services, (now Fellowship) which expanded the resources available to Ashoka’s social entrepreneurs to connect them to one another. When she took a leave to pursue a Ph.D. in anthropology from New York University (2000), she was named both a Fulbright and Woodrow Wilson scholar. Her ethnographic research focused on how social change happens as a local articulation of a global social movement. She will share some of her biggest challenges at Ashoka and leading positive social change globally, and will also speak to the challenges of Fellows engaged in social entrepreneurship around the world.

Somporn Intaraprayong
Somporn Intaraprayong, 2017 IFAM | Santa Fe Artist: Having experienced a difficult childhood, Somporn Intaraprayong learned how to become self-sufficient, but she also acquired empathy — especially towards women who have struggled to provide for themselves and their children. As a textile artist, Somporn is self-taught and she has taken her creativity, passion, and discipline across various regions in Thailand to teach women to sew clothing and accessories by hand using traditional techniques and stitches.
